it was my first surgery experience so it's blog-worth!
well, a few months ago, my bottom right wisdom tooth started to hurt, and a bit of gum above it got scraped off, so my orthodontist suggested i make an appt to remove my wisdom teeth, and to remove the bottom one, i've to remove the one above it. so that makes 2. so she also suggested removing all 4 lest the other 2 decides to be nasty later in life. and so, that appt was yesterday..
amazingly, it wasn't as bad as i had thought it would be.. my friends who had gone through it said it was hell for them. one even said the pain and swelling was so bad it was the first time he experienced such pain. ok all in all, those who did it before said it was a painful experience, and those who haven't, told me, "NOT PAIN!" haha.. somehow i chose to believe the latter.
the thing i regretted most was the fact that i had to remove my nail polish, and it was barely 3 days since i did my manicure!! i only knew i had to remove them when the nurse called me the day before the surgery. bleah. That morning, i arrived at NDC level 3 at 8.45am, as my appt was scheduled at 9am. my mom was there with me and soon after clem came! didnt expect him to come even before i went in..
after the administrative stuff, we headed in, the nurse took my blood pressure, and the doctor began explaining to my mom and i, what to expect and do before and after the surgery, and the risks and dangers involved. after which, i got changed into a gown that was extremely loose and over-sized. before i went into the op room, the nurse sprayed sth up my nose. didnt expect that to be so painful! cuz the liquid went up my nose and down my throat,which made me tear. maybe that would cure my sinus, lol.(that was random!)
a few seconds later, my name was called. i walked in, wearing that ugly gown and some blue slippers that they provided. the op room was spacious, and the doctors(i think there were at least 4) surrounded this high bed, the doctors looked busy to me.. they instructed my to lie down and place my head in this round thing which was like a round hole. above me where super bright lights. the place feels like those op theatres we see on tv! feeling a bit nervous, i tilted my head up to see who was holding on to the needle but another doctor(or surgeons? doctors ok?) started pushing my head down and told me not to be scared. my blood pressure was taken again, and they placed sth at my heart. then from the corner of my eye i saw the needle! i closed my eyes and tried to sleep.(haha! but they haven't gased me yet, as they have only fed me oxygen, as told.) the next moment, the injection was over=)! they taped the needle to my wrist, which was connected to a drip during the op.. i suddenly felt a surge of pain in my left arm. i think it was the thing they put through the needle. they turned off the lights, and the next moment(after they gased me, though i couldnt remember), i knocked out.
the next time i opened up eyes, i was already lying on a different bed, feeling weak, and with cotton in my mouth. i think it was quite unglam? i couldnt exactly keep my eyes open though, cuz i still felt quite giddy. my thoat felt uncomfortable, like i've choked on sth, and so i started coughing. bad move! someone placed a tube into my throat to suck the phlegm out.. it was terrible! cuz it was like putting a finger into your throat to force yourself to vomit, and i started coughing even more and vomited some sticky stuff out. never wanna experience that again. they then pushed me to my ward.. where i rested. i still felt pain in my throat. it was sort of throbbing, and it's still hurting even now. but the doctor had alr explained that it was the because of the tube they inserted in, to clear my airway during the op=)
i couldnt really sleep, but tried anyhow. clem came in a while later. BOO!!! unglam me! but i couldn't care less alr. haha. still felt a bit drowsy and giddy.. i think the anesthesia hasn't worn off completely. the nurse came in and fed me water.. but i dont know why, i just couldn't swallow anything! maybe i wasn't brave enough to. but i took a small sip and vomited sticky stuff out. felt so helpless lar.. cuz the nurse had to help me dig out sticky stuff from my mouth. bleah. okay i think the sticky stuff was a mixture of... saliva, phlegm, blood, and whatnot. LOL. ewww. eventually i got a bit better, started drinking, took my medicine... clem was beside me all the time.. and i'm so grateful for that, though he saw my ultimate unglam moments alr lar. grrrr.
after a few hours, i got better.. the nurse took my blood pressure again, and then (finally!) removed the needle with a tube sticking out from my wrist. i hated it larr.. it was quite difficult to stop the bleeding as blood kept oozing out even after pressure was applied. but eventually the bleeding did stop. my mom was supposed to pick me up, but because of work, she asked me to take a cab home. i wasnt allowed to go home alone, but clem was there, yeah, so he brought me home, after collecting the medicine. just beside my ward was another girl who also had her surgery on the same day.. and while resting, i sorta overheard the nurse saying to her mom, who was waiting outside the ward, "kan de chu ni men mu nu gan qin hen hao". somehow i secretly wished that my mom was there with me, or at least would even come and pick me up after that. but i guess she couldnt help it lar, cuz she was busy with work.. oh wells.
i went home, ate porridge and slept throughout the day. thanks clem for being there for me and with me=)
now, amazingly, my mouth isn't swelling. and it doesnt hurt like super a lot. ok it hurts a little, and it does feels a little uncomfortable, but i'm thankful for that! it must be the painkillers. the doctor said it prevents swelling. =) WAY TOO GOOD!
going back there on wed to remove the stitches..
that's about all that i could remember! all the rest that's happened during the op, i guess i'll never wanna find out=)
